FAQ

Are there tools and supplies ?

En We-Che there is an emergency fund with some basic art supplies, and basic tools, everyone can use (and replace), without any guaranty about quality and quantity. It is not possible for us to have everything for everybody. We recommend you to bring with you all specific or essential stuff, and for more common things, you can communicate a list and we will help you to find it locally, or to order it in buenos aires and ship it to We-Che. When you leave, you can donate art supplies you won’t bring back home to contribute to the emergency supply fund and increase its diversity

What’s the cook like?

Creative and cosmopolitan, because you’ll be doing the cooking! Artists are expected to be self-reliant and organized in preparing their own breakfast, lunch, and dinner, either individually or collectively, and in cleaning the kitchen and common areas after use. For inspiration, the library offers a selection of cookbooks that may be helpful. Optionally, in consultation with all the artists in the group, we can prepare a delicious meal each day. An additional fee of $250 per month/artist will apply.

How is the weather?

Patagonia’s climate is changeable and sometimes extreme, at the foot of the Andes can change abruptly (frost in summer, strong winds, sudden rain). Windy, sunny, rainny, foggy, dusty… sometimes all in the same day !

We are in the Austral part of the earth (South), thus, mid-December, January, and February are generally considered the austral summer months, (warm temperatures and a very dry and a bit windy). The months from mid-March to mid-June correspond to autumn (beautifull colors, quite nice weather), June, July, and August are the months of the southern winter (short days and cold, snowy, and/or very rainy weather), and those from mid-October to mid-December to spring (nice weather, windy, may have sporadic snow).
For creative and production residencies, to take advantage of outdoor spaces, the surrounding natural areas, and nature, we ideally recommend choosing the period between late October and May.

Can I bring my partner

While priority is given to artists and writers, we can accommodate your partner if you share a bed. Under no circumstances may they monopolize the workspaces reserved for artists. A supplement equivalent to half the cost of an artist residency will be applied to cover general operating expenses. This is always subject to availability.

Can I bring my familly

No. First of all, our spaces are not designed for child safety, and we prefer to avoid managing any incidents. Furthermore, we know that a residency always seems too short, and you’ll need to make the most of every moment for your project, to reflect, to meditate (and other artists will need this tranquility too). That’s why the We-Che artist residency is exclusively for artists, so they can focus on their art while still having the freedom to share this special time with other artists. If you’re traveling with family, you can find other accommodation near We-Che and join them for dinner in town or an excursion.

Can I bring my pet ?

We have chosen not to accept residents to come along with their pets, considering we aim that We-che remain a safe and peaceful place for everyone to focus on its artistic purpose, we think that each person has a different degree of confort with animals, and/or an eventual disease or allergy to manage with so we prefer only human residents.

Can I have fun ?

Yes and no… it depends on the type of fun and entertainment you’re talking about, and also on the sense of humor and mood of the other resident artists.
Any case at We-Che, it is forbidden to receive visitors, to organize parties, to play music all night, to smoke (tobacco or otherwise), to light fires, to play football in the garden, to climb trees, and there is no television.
